We repair eroding pond banks so they stay fixed.
Shoreline Erosion Control repairs eroding pond banks for HOAs, condominium associations, golf communities and campuses in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami Dade. We rebuild the slope from the waterline up with leading edge technology, so the grass roots into the bank and holds it. We are based in Boca Raton, we do every foot of the work ourselves, and we keep the work at the bank and out of residents' yards.
Most community ponds in South Florida are retention ponds that hold stormwater. They were graded and sodded once, when the community was built, and years of rain and changing water levels have worn the edge back toward fences and patios.
What are the signs your pond bank is failing?
You can spot most of them on a 10 minute walk around the pond. Look for any of these:
- The grass stops 1 or 2 feet short of the water, with bare sand or mud at the edge.
- The edge has turned into a small cliff, and the ground gives a little under your shoe near the top.
- The bank is undercut, with grass hanging over a hollow at the waterline.
- Drain pipes, outfalls or irrigation lines are showing where they used to be buried.
- Fences, patios or sidewalks sit closer to the edge than they did a few years ago.
- Sand bars or muddy fans have formed in the water below the worst sections.
If you see 2 or more of these, the bank has been moving for a while. For a longer list, see our stormwater pond inspection checklist.
Why does regrade and sod fail on a pond bank?
The most common repair is to haul in fill, regrade the slope and lay new sod. It looks good the day the crew leaves. But nothing holds the bottom of the bank, where the water does its damage, and new sod on loose fill does not have time to root before the next heavy rain. Within a few wet seasons the slope slides back toward where it started, and the association pays for the same job again.
Regrading also brings heavy equipment behind the homes, which tears up lawns, sprinkler heads and fences. Our guide on why regrade and sod fails explains each part of the problem.
What does Shoreline Erosion Control do?
We rebuild the pond bank from the waterline up with leading edge technology, so the grass roots into the slope instead of sitting on top of it. As the roots grow, the bank knits together and gets stronger each year rather than weaker.
We developed our own installation method that keeps the work at the bank. Residents keep their lawns, and the fences stay standing. We do not publish how we do it.
At one community in South Florida, we rebuilt about 6,600 linear feet of bank. Residents kept their lawns and fences stayed standing. We have also restored 2 campus lakes at a college in South Florida.
If your board is weighing other approaches, our guide on lake bank repair options compared lays out riprap, geotubes, sheet pile, sod and planted shelves side by side.
What are the steps?
- A free lake bank walk. We walk every pond with the manager or a board member, and we measure and photograph every section of bank.
- A written report and scope. The board gets a report and a scope it can put out to bid, whether it hires us or not.
- A Proof Section. We repair about 100 feet at a spot residents can see, so the board sees the result before it votes on the rest. The fee is credited to the full job.
- The full repair. We phase the work by pond to fit the budget, starting with the sections closest to fences, patios and pool decks.
- A written warranty. Every job carries a 5 year material and 5 year labor warranty.
- Follow up inspections. We come back in years 3, 5, 7 and 9, and each visit comes with a written report for your minutes.
Where do we work?
We are based in Boca Raton and repair pond banks across South Florida. Each county page covers the local rules for community ponds and lakes.
- Pond and lake bank repair in Palm Beach County
- Pond and lake bank repair in Broward County
- Pond and lake bank repair in Miami Dade County
If you are looking for erosion control contractors near you, these are the 3 counties we serve.
What does the warranty cover?
Every pond bank we rebuild carries a 5 year material and 5 year labor warranty, in writing. If a section we built moves, we come back and fix it.
We also inspect the bank in years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Each inspection comes with a written report the board can put in its minutes and its stormwater records. Those reports show owners, insurers and future boards that the bank was repaired and checked.

Questions boards ask
What is pond erosion control?
Pond erosion control is the work of stopping a pond bank from washing into the water and rebuilding the slope that has already been lost. On a community stormwater pond, that usually means rebuilding the edge at the waterline, where most of the damage happens. We rebuild the slope from the waterline up so the grass roots into the bank and holds it.
How do I know if our retention pond bank needs repair?
Walk the pond and look at the edge. If the grass stops short of the water, the edge has become a small cliff, or pipes and fences are closer to the water than they were, the bank is moving. A free lake bank walk will measure each section and tell you which ones need work first.
Will your crews be in residents' backyards?
No. We developed our own installation method that keeps the work at the bank and out of residents' yards. Lawns, walkways, sprinkler heads and fences stay as they are.
Can we repair the worst pond banks first and the rest later?
Yes. Most communities phase the work by pond, starting with the sections closest to fences, patios and pool decks, and put the rest into the next 1 or 2 budgets. Our guide on budgeting and phasing a lake bank repair shows how boards sort the work.
How long does a pond bank repair last?
We build it to be permanent. The grass roots into the rebuilt slope, so the bank gets stronger every year. Every job carries a 5 year material and 5 year labor warranty, with inspections in years 3, 5, 7 and 9.
